      Nov 1876: Joined Great Western Railway as Policeman at Steventon but quickly changed to be a Signalman at Kintbury. In Sep 1878 he moved to Twyford and in Feb 1884 to Pewsey. In 1886 he was cautioned for allowing a train to start over a fouled line. In Nov 1888 he became a porter at Farringdon but later in the same month he resigned.

      1880: probably married Annie Terry in Bradfield (Berkshire). Registration District of Bradfield includes Pangbourne, where Ann was born.
